OHS Weekly Sports Recap

Last Saturday, the Olympia District Special Olympics team participated in the Region G Bowling Event. This was a wonderful placement event for our athletes. Caleb Busick earned Bronze and Kacie Raffety with Silver. The two Gold finishers of Hannah Baker and Dylan Olson will advance to the State Event on December 4th.

Rylie Passmore had her first high school match of the year for Olympic Style Air Rifle in Nashville. Rylie won the competition as just a sophomore. In December she will compete in another qualifying match to participate in her 4th Jr Olympics. Way to go Rylie!

Volleyball had two games this week on Tuesday and Thursday. All levels traveled to Pontiac first and came up with losses. The JV team fought to the finish and was always a back-and-forth rally. Pontiac had a strong student fan section, which did not help the Spartan volleyball team. Then, on Thursday night was Volley For A Cure at home. It was the Spartans vs Spartans as Olympia faced St. Joseph Ogden. Both teams had special pink jerseys with the fans packed in a pink out. A 50/50 raffle was also hosted to donate for breast cancer awareness.

Football season is quickly coming to a close, as the last varsity home game was played Friday night. This was the senior night game against rival Central Catholic. At the game senior cheerleaders, football players, color guard, band, and golf were all honored. This was also a newer change of scenery with chilly temperatures and rain. Unfortunately, the Spartans came up with a loss and brought the Corn Bowl back to Central Catholic for the last time. The long-time rival will never be played again as Olympia switches conferences next year.

In other sports, JV football hosted Prairie Central at the beginning of the week. This resulted in a Spartan loss though. Tuesday night was also a home swim meet against Southeast, Lincoln, and Charleston. On Thursday, freshman football played against Eureka high school. Friday night, the boys and girls cross country team made their way down to Effingham for the St. Anthony Invite early Saturday morning. They went to stay at a hotel the night before and had a fun team bonding experience too. Saturday afternoon the girls’ swim team also went to the Urbana Uni-High Invite.
